How Technology Advanced in the 1800-s

Technology in the 1800-s – in the age of Wyatt Earp? The 1800-s technology was the gateway to technology today.

In 1804 gas lighting was patented. Although gas had been used for lighting for thousands of years, containing it in a single unit was a new conception. Five years later the electric light was invented. Another form of lighting, the miner-s lamp was created in 1815.

1819 brought the invention of the stethoscope, while the electromagnet came to be in 1825.

The typewriter was invented in 1829, which was also the same year that Louis Braille invented Braille printing for the blind. A year later the sewing machine came to be.

1836 brought us the first revolver, a year later the first telegraph, and a year after the telegraph came the invention of Morse Code.

The safety pin came to be in 1849 while the sewing machine entered our lives in 1851.

Fiber optics…the makings of dependable telecommunication… was actually introduced to us in 1854 when John Tyndall demonstrated its principles.

The last half of the 1800-s has become known as the Second Industrial Revolution, and many of the inventions that came about during that period are household words today.
