It is difficult for today’s youth to imagine a world without internet, e-mail, and cell phones. Believe it or not, there was a time when these current commodities were luxuries that many individuals simply did not have access to. Although technology experiences great developments every single year, many of the common technological advances that we use today were invented in the 1990s.

One of the main technology advances that occurred within the 1990s was access to the internet. With the use of this technology, information could be spread quickly and to a variety of users. As a result, answers to common questions could be found at one’s fingertips. This invention made a great difference in the way children were educated and jobs were performed.

Alongside the introduction of the internet to consumers arose the availability of immediate contact with friends, family, and work partners through the use of e-mail technology. E-mail is now used on an everyday basis to connect with a variety of individuals to share information or work details. In addition, the use of cell phones to communicate with friends and family spread, as did the use of mp3 files to capture music and DVDs to watch movies.

The decade of the 1980′s saw some real advances in technology and the role it played in people’s lives. At the end of the 1970′s, the only real enduring technological advances were smaller radios and better TV sets. The 1980′s saw the average household’s inventory of technologically advanced devices explode.

Take music, for example. Vinyl records had been the norm for the past 60 years, unchallenged save for the passing fad of the 8 track. The 80′s were the decade of the cassette tape. Even though it too passed, the ability to record music off the radio and producing mix tapes got a whole generation into the habit of creating their own music collections.Get more information here. http://bubbamjs.wordpress.com/2011/12/09/video-games/ CD sales also increased slowly but steadily. This set the stage for the full scale digitalization of music. The 80′s also saw lots of music hits featuring early synthesizer music, which anyone cruising the pop stations can tell you is the dominant form of music today.

The other big advance was the rise of computers and video games. In 1980, video games were to be found only in rare arcades and computers in big businesses and secret military bases. By 1990, millions of households had a desktop PC and one of the early 8 bit or 16 bit video game consoles.

This was also the decade when cable TV came of age. Previously, people were limited to their local stations, or any they could pick up with an antennae. Anyone growing up in a remote area will tell you that you were lucky to get a single channel, if the weather was good! Beginning as a business oriented service, for establishments interested in showing live sports matches and such, the expansion of the fiber optic network around the country soon made it affordable for anyone to boost their viewing options up to 100 channels!

Despite plenty of fads that wore off, the 80′s was a truly transformational decade in America’s history.

Explore more to learn what innovations these three have been responsible for
Thomas Edison: You know he invented the lightbulb but what about the phonograph and all types of advances in film? Edison was truly the father of modern electrical inventions and we’re constantly using his brainchildren.
George Washington Carver: He invented the cotton gin – oh wait! That was Eli Whitney! Carver was instead a southern chemist who came up with hundreds of uses for pecans, peanuts and various agricultural products, changing the scope of farming for hundreds of years to come.
Benjamin Franklin: Of course you know Ben Franklin invented the lightning rod but what about the electrical stove andbifocals? From health to home he was perhaps the most varied inventor of his day and his mechanical mind has been second to none since his death in 1790.
If you learn anything from these famous inventors it’s to never stop creating!

In 1903, the first projection film was released. The movie was called The Great Train Robbery and it was only 10 minutes long.

In 1910, three different companies came together to become C-T-R, (Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company which was the forefather of IBM. One year later, in 1911, AT&T took control of the Western Union Telegraph company.

In the year of 1920, KDKA was presented with the first Radio Broadcasting license. They were located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In 1927, the first trans-Atlantic phone company using radio waves was successful. Two years later, in 1929, the first T.V broadcast was aired. It was a regularly scheduled T.V show which aired three nights a week. June 27th, 1929 was the first colored T.V broadcast.

In 1930, the first quartz clock was invented. Five years later, the first mechanical T.V was invented.

In the year of 1938, the first FM radio broadcast was aired. This radio broadcasting station was located in New Jersey and they came to full power on July 18th, 1939.

The first mobile technology was invented in 1940 but was only available to the police and emergency radios.

The decade of the seventies was an exciting time in the advancement of technology. Not only was the modern era of computing introduced, via the world’s first microprocessor, this was also the age of the pocket calculators. This was the decade when video games came into play. One of the leaders in the field was Atari. They introduced the enormously popular arcade game known as “Pong.”

The 1970′s was also the beginning of Fiber Optics. This was also the first period in which the United States and Europe realized that the larger, heavier automobiles needed to be re-designed. The first of the lightweight, fuel efficient cars hit the drawing boards. One of the popular outcomes was the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Although the U.S. seemed to lag behind GM and Ford eventually produced some vehicles, namely the Vega and the Pinto, which were both compact and fuel efficient.

After the introduction of the computer and robot Japan saw a huge growth in mass-produced automotive quality. This brought about lightweight, fuel efficient, and environmentally friendly automobiles. This also brought about a demand for cars such as the Honda Civic as well as the Toyota Corolla. This was the decade that the Japanese made their strong presence felt in the international marketing of cars. The 70′s also introduced the family household to the microwave oven. Cassette tapes, VHS, Betamax all competed against one another for more sales. It was truly a decade which is currently playing a major role in our technology today.

In the years 1949 to 1969 huge leaps in technology occurred. Here are some leaps that were made in three major areas. The areas that the best advancements were made in, were in computers, communications and finally medical technology. After reading further, you’ll be astounded at the advancements that were made in just a few years after the war.

Computer Technology
Computer technology grew out of efforts with missiles. From early war code encryption efforts, the Apollo space program pushed the development of computers. What started as room sized computers, went to mainframes and later to minicomputers.

Communications Technology
During this same time, communications grew in the form of radar and satellites. Telephone lines also grew more sophisticated. Moon missions required satellite communications, as well as computer communications. This was the dawn of the internet.

Medical Technology
Finally, from the space program, medical developments came at a rapid pace. For instance space blanket technology was developed and later used in medical devices. As technology was required to be shrunken, it naturally helped advancements in the medical industry.

Out of the necessity of war came many advancements in computers, communications and medical devices. As the advancements came and established themselves, it set the stage for even bigger developments in computers down the road. The information doesn-t stop now. Keep looking: Engineers Australia “Australia’s medical technology management needs a re-think”
